"When we think about Kennesaw State and football going into its third year, who would have thought that a year from now we would be playing in front of 25,000 fans," said Vaughn Williams, Director of Athletics at Kennesaw State University

The historic announcement...

Kennesaw State and the Atlanta Braves announced Friday (June 9) that the Owls will host a football game at SunTrust Park in the 2018 season.

The game on Saturday, November 17, 2018 between Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State University will be the first football game played at the new, 41,000-seat home of the Braves that opened in Cobb County in April.

"We set out on this journey several years ago and it was all about making history. The first program, the first recruit, the first commit, the first game, the first win, the first time running out of the tunnel, and here we are today with another great opportunity to make more history for this university, for this football program," said Head Coach Brian Bohannon.

On a historic night, the Kennesaw State family held a pregame event on the plaza in the Braves' Battery just outside of the ballpark.

Kennesaw State is entering its third year of football in 2017, and has been one of the most successful start-up programs in Football Championships Subdivision (FCS) history:
14 wins over first two seasons
Earned Top 25 recognition in 2016
Brian Bohannon was a finalist for the 2016 National Coach of the Year Award

Jacksonville State is a perennial power in the FCS
33-6 record over the last three seasons, including three-straight Playoff berth.
Played in 2015 FCS National Championship game

"We couldn't think of a better way to bring football to SunTrust Park than with Kennesaw State," said Mike Plant, Braves president of development. "We're excited to host this game for Cobb County and Kennesaw State students, faculty and alumni."

Fans attended SunTrust Park for a thrilling 3-2 victory over the New York Mets in walk-off fashion, but the night also belonged to Kennesaw State with the news of hosting the first-ever football game in the new stadium.
